Agora - New Discussion group
The idea for an English-language philosophy cafe according to the "standard model" is being promoted by a new and informal organisation in Bern called "Agora." (Agora means in Greece, the market place where public forums are often held").
Details are presented on the web site http://tritt.bizland.com/agora with a calendar of events, a mailing list, and a blog for discussions.
The Agora group was founded by the International Club of Berne to offer and coordinate discussion activities for English speakers. Meetings are designed for native and non-native speakers of English and learners who are are fluent enough to take part in a discussion.
Activities of the Agora group include presentations, panel sessions, and meetings on specific themes in areas like science, technology, health, and social issues.
Often following an interesting presentation in the German or French language, an hour of discussion in a nearby cafe is scheduled. Agora members can register online.
The International Club is a non-political organisation founded in 1991 and has currently over 200 members, half of whom are Swiss and the rest from more than 40 countries. The club has a web page on http://icberne.2ya.com and many activities with different interest groups.
